5 WORDS A DAY :')

Assalamualaikum and hye to all!

Starting from today, I'm gonna share with you guys 5 new words per day. The reason why I'm doing this is because I wanna improve and widen my vocabulary skills in order for me to show the varieties in my essay for TOEFL and SAT soon yay!

So here we go ~

1) Retrofit (verb)
-          Substitute new or modernized parts for older ones
-          “We can put probably millions of people to work retrofitting and weatherizing buildings over this country”

2) Shibboleth (noun)
-          A custom, principle, or belief distinguishing a particular class or group of people, especially a long-standing one regarded as outmoded or no longer important.
-          “liberal shibboleths about education”

3) Stifle (verb)
-          (i) Make (someone) unable to breathe properly; suffocate
-          “Those people in the streets were stifled by the fumes”
-          (ii) Restrain (a reaction) or stop oneself acting on (an emotion)
-          “She stifled a giggle”

4) Homily (noun)
-          A religious discourse which is intended primarily for spiritual edification rather than doctrinal instruction; a tedious moralizing lecture
-          “She delivered her homily about the need for patience”

5) Charade (noun)
-          An absurd pretence intended to create a pleasant or respectable appearance
-          “Talk of unity was nothing more than a charade”
